Described by Bruce Lee in the 'Tao of Jeet Kune Do':

"The Six Diseases:

The desire for victory

The desire to resort to technical cunning

The desire to display all that has been learned

The desire to awe the enemy

The desire to play the passive role

The desire to get rid of whatever disease one is affected by"

but this was originally written in 1632 by Yagyū Munenori (柳生 宗矩, 1571 – May 11, 1646) in the 'Heihō kadensho' ( Hereditary Book of Stategy)

In the 'Budō no densho' (武道の傳書 Handbook of martial arts) by Watanabe Ichirō (1978), he describes how the founder of Ryōi Shintō ryū - Fukuno Shichirōuemon (福野七郎右衛門) learnt the military principles of the Shinkage ryū (新陰流) from two people (father and son): from father called Yagyū Munetoshi and from his son Munenori.

So, it seems that Fukuno would have been familiar with these principles three and a half centuries prior to the legendary Bruce Lee.
