Further to my pervious posts of 25th June 2021, regarding Kōbujutsu (古武術) and 14th July 2021, regarding the elements of Jigō Tenshin-ryū.
I have included some additional details to show how ‘Chūgoku (Chinese) Kenpō’ (中国拳法), from the Southern Shaolin (南少林) Chinese monk Chin Genpin (陳元贇) can be considered as the third foundation pillar, in the development of Ryōi Shintō-ryū Jūjutsu (良移心当流 柔術)
As such, Kenpō (also sometimes referred to as - Kenpō Sappō ) has represented an integral component of Ryōi Shintō ryū throughout its 400 year history (1622 to present).
Ryōi Shintō-ryū techniques are featured following Meiji era Kenpō titled books:‘Kenpō Zukai’ - Kenpō Illustrated Guide (拳法図解)By Hisatomi Tetsutaro (久富鉄太郎) (1888)https://dl.ndl.go.jp/info:ndljp/pid/859946/63‘
Kenpō Kyōhan Zukai’ - Kenpo: Illustrated Teaching Method(拳法教範図解)By Inoguchi Matsunosuke (井口松之助) (1898)https://dl.ndl.go.jp/info:ndljp/pid/859945
The strength and prominence of the Kenpō within Ryōi Shintō-ryū is additionally indicated by its descendent school, Kitō-ryū, (起倒流) using Kenpō as a descriptor as early as 1779. This is evidenced by monument at the Atago Shrine in Tōkyō, which bears the inscription ‘Kitō-ryū Kenpō no ishibumi’ (起倒流拳法の碑 – a monument to Kitō-ryū Kenpō).(See: https://ja.foursquare.com/.../506d1930e4b0f68b60e05dc8)
Also, the Jigō Tenshin-ryū (which is another derivative school of the Ryōi Shintō-ryū) which self describes as Kenpō in the following document:'Kenpō Jigō Tenshin Shodan Sōden' ((拳法自剛天真初段祖博 Kenpō Jigō Tenshin first level inherited transmission), written in the 3rd year of 'Bunkyū' (文久) i.e. 1863.(See: https://www.ryoishintokai.com/.../kenpo-jigo-tenshin.../)
I am very grateful and extremely honoured to have been recognised as and awarded: Hanshi (範士) title and Jūdan (10th Dan 十段) rank in 'Ryōi Shintō-ryū Kenpō' (良移心当流拳法) by the 'Zen Nihon Sōgō Budō Renmei’ (全日本総合武道連盟 – All Japan Budō Federation), in Kyōto, Japan.
My sincere gratitude to my teacher Shortt Hanshi and to Kawano Kanchō and Sheridan Hanshi of the ZNSBR for their kindness and support in making this happen.
