I recently obtained a copy of Budō Gokui (武道極意 - the innermost secrets of martial arts) by Uchida Ryōhei (内田 良平) - published in 1918 by Kokuryū-kai Shuppan-bu (Kuroryukai Publishing Department) 

The book contains a significant amount of content regarding the Jigō Tenshin-ryū (自剛天真流), including several scrolls from that school. 

The book will eventually be translated and although it will be a long process, I look forward to eventually sharing some of it contents on this blog.

Uchida Ryōhei (内田 良平 1873 –1937), was famous for founding the pre-war ultra-nationalist 'Kokuryūkai' (黒竜会 - Black Dragon Society). 

In addition to the Uchida-ryū tanjōjutsu (内田流短杖術) and Shindō Musō-ryū (神道夢想流) that he learnt from his father, Ryōhei was also a very skilled practitioner of Jigō Tenshin-ryū (自剛天真流), which is an off-shoot of the Ryōi Shintō-ryū (良移心当流) and also founded the Tenshinkan Dōjō (天真館道場) in 1889.

Shinohara (2005) describes subsequent Shihan of the Tenshinkan, as having received "Menkyo Kaiden in Ryōi Shintō-ryū and (to have) worked tirelessly at recovering manuscripts and preserving Ryōi Shintō-ryū".

In addition (to the above) Ryōhei was also a skilled 5th dan Kōdōkan Jūdōka, nicknamed 'the assassin' for his ruthless ability in randori. He created the Kōdōkan Jūdō - Shobu no Kata (勝負の形 - victory / defeat form), this was described as "being for life or death situations", but is no longer taught in modern Jūdō.
