Shinohara Yasunoshin (篠原 泰之進, (1828 – 1911) was a samurai from Chikugo Province. He was also a Ryōi Shintō-ryū Jūjutsu(良移心當流柔術) teacher who had studied with the famous Shimosaka Gorobei  (下坂五郎兵衛). 

He left Chikugo domain in 1861 and travelled to Tokyo, where he stayed with Totsuka Hikosuke (戸塚彦介) of the Totsuka-ha Yōshin-ryū Jūjutsu (戸塚派揚心流柔術) and Kubota Shigekatsu (窪田鎮勝) a teacher of Kyushin-ryū Jūjutsu(扱心流柔術) at the Kōbusho (講武所 - military martial arts training academy).

He joined the famous Shinsengumi (新選組 - New Select Brigade), which was the Tokugawa Shogunate’s special police in 1865 and served as an Inspector General (兼監察 Ken kansatsu) and Jūjutsu Shihan (柔術師範 - Jūjutsu Master). 

In March 1867 and due to a rift between the new Emperor Meiji (明治天皇) the Shogunate, Shinohara left the Shinsengumi to join the Goryōeiji (御陵衛士 - Imperial Guard, aka the Kodaiji)  faction. On 18th December 1867, Shinohara and the other  members of the Goryo Guard attacked the Shinsengumi leader, Kondō Isami (近藤 勇) shooting him in the shoulder, before he made his escape. This was  known as the Aburanokoji Incident (油小路事件).

During the Boshin War (戊辰戦争), Shinohara fought with the Satsuma (薩摩)clan on the Imperial side against the Shogunate forces at the Battle of Toba–Fushimi (鳥羽・伏見の戦い) on 27th January 1868. After having been imprisoned for joining the Sekihōtai (赤報隊, "Red Herald Regiment" in the Boshin War, he was released and commissioned as a Sergeant (軍曹) and distinguished himself in the Aizu (会津戦争) and Hokuetsu wars (北越戦争).

Due to his military service , he was given the status of an eternal samurai  (Eishi 永世士) and a bounty of 250 ryō (gold currency).
