"With the permission of Yagyū Sekishūsai Munetoshi, Fukuno (Shichiroemon Masakatsu) founded Ryōi Shitō-ryū Wa (良移心当流和) with the permission of Yagyū Sekishūsai Munetoshi in 1622 (8th year of Genna).

Then Chin (陳) (Gempin) stayed at the Kokushōji Temple (国昌寺) between April 1625 and 16 September 1625 (Kan'ei 寛永 2).
Fukuno Shichiroemon Masakatsu took the opportunity to stay there (Kokushōji Temple), where he was taught by Chin Genpin.

He (Chin) said that he did not know the art, but he knew it well.
"The truth of this art is that it is soft and does not conflict with the enemy. It is necessary to be calm, not to reproach, not to touch, not to move.

It is said that if a thing sinks, it does not float, and one feels it sink. It is said that if a person does not know how to do something, he will not feel it."

"Chin Gempin left the Shaolin Temple after one year and one month of short-term training.

It is said that "there is an unwritten rule that if you enter the temple, you will not be allowed to leave the temple, even if you die unless you have achieved the ultimate meaning of Kenpō "
.
Therefore, it is thought that he had reached the highest level of Shorinji (Shaolin) Kenpō.

From this it can be inferred that Fukuno learned the five fists of Chinese martial arts from Chen Yuan-pan at Kokushoji.

The five fists of Chinese martial arts (dragon fist to train the mind, tiger fist to strengthen the bones, leopard fist to strengthen the strength, and snake fist to nourish the chi) were taught to Fukuno by Chin Gempin.

In addition, it is thought that the techniques of standing meditation, qigong, neigong and other breathing techniques were also transmitted.

It is thought that these were then used as a reference point to examine, modify, and improve the practice of Ryōi Shintō-ryū.
