Further to my posts of 20th October 2021 regarding the Oguri-ryū  (小栗流 和術)

Several schools such as Oguri-ryū (小栗流) and Ryoi Shintō-ryū (良移心当流) were created in the early 17th century, under the influence of Yagyū Shinkage-ryū (柳生新陰流). 

The Oguri-ryū (小栗流) was founded by Oguri Jinuemon Nobuyoshi (小栗仁右衛門信由) in 1616 and Ryoi Shintō-ryū (良移心当流) was founded in 1622 by Fukuno Shichirouemon Masakatsu (福野七郎右衛門正勝). So, they both share some common origin and were created in a similar period of Japanese history.

Eric Shahan in his book ‘A Collection of Curious Jujutsu Manuals’ (vol.1) has translated many of the Oguri-ryū (小栗流) illustrations included in my previous posts. 

The document is called the - ‘Oguri-ryū Wa kumimono’ (小栗流和組物  - Rules of the Oguri School of Jujutsul) and is dated in the late Edo period (1800-1868). However, it shows techniques that would not have been unfamiliar to early Edo (1603 onwards) Sumo / Kumiuchi training.

The chapter is 34 pages in length and gives additional insight into the Oguri-ryū (小栗流).
