Oshimatsu (1983), describes Ryōi Shintō-ryū as a being a "Sōgō-bujutsu no ketsujitsu“ (良移心当流は総合武術の結実 - a comprehensive martial art of achieving success).

Ryōi Shintō-ryū truly is Sōgō-bujutsu (comprehensive martial art). It begins with 'Kenpō' (拳法), then progresses to 'Toriai Shikkō' (捕合執行 - restraining /capturing), then 'Kumiuchi' (組討 - grappling) and finally Sakkatsu-hō' (殺活法 - killing & living method), also sometimes referered to as 'Kenpō Sakkatsu' (拳法殺活). In addition there are traditional Japenese weapons - Kobujutsu (古武術).

Ryōi Shintō-ryū Kenpō is a traditional Japanese approach and not in anyway related to Ed Parker's American Kenpo. However, I have recently joined an all styles Kenpō organisation called Kempo International, with a view to increasing the understanding and exposure of this aspect of Ryōi Shintō-ryū.

I am honoured to have been recognised as Jūdan (10th Dan) rank and have been appointed as the U.K. National Representative.
