“Ryōi Shintō-ryū.

The first person invited to the Kurume domain as a jujutsu instructor during the Shotoku era was Mori Hachiroemon, a Chikuzen ronin and master of Ryōi Shintō-ryū.

Mori passed on his teachings to Shimada Tan'emon, a retainer of the domain, who in turn passed them on to Shimosaka Saizō, and then to his son Yozatodayū.

There is a theory that the Ryōi Shintō-ryū Jūjutsu that Mori taught to Kurume at the time was a mistake for Ryōi Shintō-ryū, but all the documents still found in the area today refer to it as Ryōi Shintō-ryū, so we have decided to list it as such.

Ryōi Shintō-ryū Jūjutsu was founded by Fukuno Shichiroemon, who learned from the Ming dynasty Chin Yuan at Kokushoji Temple in Azabu, Edo during the Shoho era. However, according to an ancient text scholar at the Tsutsuishin Ichiryu Noda Dojo in Hisae, Furukawa Ward, Chikugo City, Fukuoka Prefecture, which has been handed down since the Tokugawa period, it is recorded that it originated with Kasahara Shirozaemon, a retainer of the Kuroda clan of Chikuzen.”

良移心頭流

久留米藩にはじめて柔術師範として招聘されたのは、正徳年間、筑前浪人、良移心頭流の名手、森八郎右衛門である。

森はその伝を当藩士嶋田丹右衛門に授け、丹右衛門は又これを下坂才蔵に伝え、更にその子与三太夫に伝えた。

当時森が久留米に伝えた良務心頭流の柔術は、良移心当流の誤りではないかと言う説があるが、当地に今も遭っている伝書には全部良移心頭流と書いてあるので、そのまま記載することにした。

良移心頭流の柔術は、明人陳元から、正保年間、江戸麻布、国正寺で教えを受けた、福野七郎右衛門が創始したものであるが、福岡県筑後市古川区久恵に、徳川時代から伝わる、扱心一流野田道場の古文者によれば、筑前黒田家の家臣、笠原四郎左衛門に始まると記されている。
